Engaged Over the Holidays?

Your First Wedding To-Dos Before You Say "I Do."

This time of year is magical. I love watching my family and friends (and Facebook friends) get engaged amidst the lights, trees, and holiday cheer. Having been through the wedding planning process myself, I know how incredibly exciting it is! But I also know how overwhelming it can be – the date, the cake, the dress! Where should you begin? So to get you off to a good start, here are my top five wedding planning must-dos for newly engaged couples.
  1. Set a Budget: Many of the decisions you make during the planning process will be centered around your budget. The expenses will start piling up if you're not careful. Pick a number and stick to it. You can plan a beautiful day – regardless of a small or large budget – to celebrate you and your future partner-in-crime!
  2. Pick a Few Dates: Grab a calendar and choose a handful of dates. Take into account your seasonal preferences, holidays, and any other conflicting events. Obviously only one of the dates you pick will be THE DATE, but choosing a few potential dates will help you adapt quickly if one of your must-have vendors is already booked.
  3. Prioritize: What's most important to you about your special day? Do you want a swoon-worthy dress? Dreamy photos? Decked out stationery? Or an elaborate (and delicious!) cake? Decide what's most meaningful to you and check those items off your list first.
  4. Daydream: This is the fun part! Now that you've chosen your date and a handful of vendors, spend some time daydreaming about the details. What style are you going for? What do you envision for the ceremony and reception décor? How will you tie it all together?
  5. Take a Deep Breath: In my opinion, this is the most important task. Slow down, take a breath, and enjoy the process! Regardless of the details, remember that when the confetti has settled and the day is over, the best is still to come.
